Earlier today, an incident within Breslau resulted in some precautionary measures being taken at our school.
This morning, a strong odour was reported in the Breslau community. While the odour was similar to those the community has faced before, it was much stronger today. The Fire Chief recommended we initiate a Shelter in Place, which is used for environmental or weather related situations where it is necessary to keep all occupants within the school to protect them from an external situation. As a precautionary measure while the fire department and Ministry of Environment performed their investigation, we initiated a Shelter in Place and also turned off the ventilation. The Shelter in Place was lifted at just prior to dismissal this afternoon.
Classes continued as scheduled throughout the day; however, Kindergarten outdoor time was cancelled and students were kept indoors for nutrition breaks. Students with classes based in portables were able to come to and from the school.
The Fire Chief will be coming to see me on Tuesday, and I will share any further information we receive from the fire department. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Marcia Lubert, principal, at (519) 648-2242. Thank you for your understanding.
