Many families in our community will have children with smiling faces this holiday season, thanks to the generosity of Breslau Public School.
For two weeks, Ms. White’s 6A class and Mr. Wade’s student leadership club ran their own toy drive to support CTV Kitchener‘s larger giving campaign, Toy Mountain. Through announcements, posters and classroom visits, students encouraged their peers and teachers to contribute in whatever way they could, big or small.

But this act of giving was more than donating toys.
“We want to foster a sense of generosity and gratitude in our school and in our students, regardless of what you celebrate,” said Ms. White, a Breslau PS teacher and one of the staff organizers of this initiative. “We want to come together to make this a season of giving, kindness, and generosity, and to help our students think outside of their own world to help those who are less fortunate.”
The result: more than 800 items donated, including, but not limited to, toys, puzzles, games, gift cards…even two bicycles.
“Since we have so much, we wanted to give back to those who don’t have as much as we do,” said one student leader. “It feels really good to give and know that you have helped someone else by giving them one of your toys. It’s a really awesome feeling.”
To top off their hard work and acknowledge the school community’s support, CTV Kitchener’s Lyndsay Morrison helped our students celebrate the closing of the school’s toy drive. You can see the full interview on Wednesday, December 19 during their “In Your Backyard” segment on CTV News at 5.
Thank you @CTVKitchener and @Lyndsay_CTV for showcasing the generosity to @brewrdsb. All these donations will be a great addition to #TM2018. 🎄 The total amount of items donated will be revealed in tomorrow’s #WRDSBgives story! 🎁 #WRDSBlive pic.twitter.com/wH6wMdgoJF
